About the Director
Born and raised in Gijón, a small town in northern Spain where, according to the local newspaper, there are more dogs than people under the age of 18, Maria Barton’s career began documenting skateboarding more than fifteen years ago.
Later on, evolved into a visual language defined by honesty, colour, and rhythm. After studying art direction and creative direction at Central Saint Martins, Maria worked as an art director before returning to her true passion: creating images and stories that feel alive.
Now based in Berlin, her work spans fashion and fiction, often blending the two. Whether she’s shooting for Vogue Spain, Pull&Bear, or developing a short film, Maria’s storytelling is marked by intimacy, vibrant palettes, and a subtle sense of humour.
Her experience as a photographer deeply informs her directing, infusing her films with a strong visual identity, each frame charged with energy, emotion, and a touch of mischief.
