Synopsis: Living at a higher altitude creates a harsh environment for Paul Johnson to farm in, but that doesn’t stop him from doing everything in his power to protect the wildlife that lives there, even if it has a significant impact on his own life.
About the Filmmaker: Matthew Wood is a director driven by a love for Northern stories. Born and raised in the North, he takes pride in capturing the region’s landscapes, communities, and voices with honesty and heart.
Matthew’s recent work includes his role as cinematographer on the BFI-funded ‘Chicken Girl’, which went on to win various awards at ten festivals, including Best British Film at the Women X Film Festival, and Best Comedy at Sunderland Short Film Festival. He has also directed a wide range of LGBTQ+ projects, including the documentary currently in production ‘Pride in Ageing’, where he worked alongside Ian McKellen to highlight the experiences of older LGBTQ+ people in the North of England.
Matthew is also the founder of Film on the Brain, a platform dedicated to championing Northern stories and the creatives behind them. Whether through documentary or fiction, his focus remains the same—continuing to tell Northern stories with warmth, sincerity, and respect for the people at their heart.
