Synopsis: A portrait by Francis Bacon, normally confined to the walls of an art museum (Sainsbury Centre), is granted ‘Day Release’, a rare day of freedom. It chooses to visit its creator’s former haunt—a bar in Soho, London—where it observes how the gay experience has evolved (or hasn’t) since it was painted in the 1950’s.
About the Filmmaker: Joe Murray is a Norwich born, British film director who has worked in collaboration with the Sainsbury Centre to create this film. Joe’s work often explores themes of memory, masculinity, and place, combining stylised visuals with grounded performances.
